My workplace being a 10 to 15 minute walk from my house makes it super convenient for me to get to work in the morning. On mornings when I have to work, I quite enjoy the slow stroll along the familiar sidewalk in my neighbourhood.
The literal translation of the word for “road” in Chinese (pronounced “ma lu”) is “horse road”. Apparently roads are called “horse roads” because in the old days, roads were commonly used by horse-drawn carriages. The name has stuck with popular usage and hence nowadays, we still call roads “horse roads” in Chinese.
