I love the shade of purple on these flowers, finally in bloom for a late spring. The good weather is short-lived, though, as it’s supposed to begin raining tomorrow for at least a week.
The way the leafs wrap around the trunk of this tree reminds me of a lady wearing an elegant Indian sari or Chinese qipao. Pretty, isn’t it?
In search of the proper name for the part in the middle of a flower, I randomly typed “filament” in Google and was lucky enough to find that it’s called a stamen. Apparently, the long part really IS called a filament, and the oval head is called an anther. There’s our biology lesson of the day!
