The ancient town of Fenghuang in the Hunan province of China is filled with a specific type of characteristic architecture called “hanging leg houses” (literal translation from Chinese). I certainly see why they got this name – the houses do seem like they’ve got their legs just dangling in the water!
Zhangjiajie, China, taken on August 11, 2010
I’ve always been fascinated by the snaking, zig-zaggy roads that lead to the top of the mountains in Zhangjiajie. We took the cable car up when we visited and that was how I was able to take this photo. Maybe the engineers had aesthetics in mind as they designed these roads because they certainly were quite magnificent!
