Nov 14, 2016 – [Monday] Anything Goes: Chirashi

Glasgow, Scotland, taken on November 5, 2016

The chirashi, or raw fish on rice, is one of my favourite things to order at a Japanese restaurant, even though a good bowl of chirashi is usually rather expensive. Dining at a Japanese restaurant with some friends recently, I noticed the addition of chirashi on their menu since my previous visit and ordered it without a second thought. I didn’t have high expectations but what arrived on the table impressed me. Not only was it beautifully presented (please excuse the poor quality of the photo – the lighting was horrible for photography and I already tried my best with Lightroom!) but the fish was so fresh and the fish eggs were so huge! Of course the variety of fish was a little limited, but at least you’ve got the classics – salmon, tuna, and mackerel. After this meal I craved sashimi daily…again soon?!

Nov 07, 2016 – [Monday] Anything Goes: Final traces of fall

Glasgow, Scotland, taken on November 3, 2016

The University of Glasgow looked gorgeous this fall and I’ve managed to take some nice photos of the foliage that surrounds the campus. However, fall is leaving as quickly as it came and I feel like we’re already welcoming winter with the low temperatures these recent days. All the more reason to capture the fall colours before they disappear! Here is a photo taken at where I like to call the “6.5th floor” of the Rankine building where I work, which is really just the midpoint of the stairs between the 6th and 7th floor. As always, the Main Building looks spectacular from every angle, even more so with the bright leafs of fall!
