Suzhou is certainly not the only place in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang area with beautiful gardens. Huzhou, a relatively small and uncrowded city compared with Suzhou and Hangzhou, hides the gorgeous Lotus Garden, a haven for people who just want to relax. The “small bridges and flowing waters” of the garden are characteristic of the Jiangnan (south Yangtze River area) region and are the symbol of classical Chinese beauty. Suzhou is well known for its beautiful classic gardens and a visit to Suzhou is not complete without admiring one or two of these. The layout and decorations of each garden are intricately and elegantly designed, a true classical Chinese architectural masterpiece.

Walking through Lanark today, I passed by the front garden of a house with a particular inhabitant. Perhaps the little wooden man is a guardian for the household…do not dare trespass!
Keukenhof, Netherlands, taken on April 9, 2011
Every spring, the gardens of Keukenhof are covered with seas of beautiful tulips and other types of flowers. The endless rows of blooming flowers are so stunning that you can’t help but wonder if you’re in paradise. Among the many varieties, my favourite one that I saw was the “Carnaval de Nice”, so intricate yet elegant. I wish I could take a bunch of them home!
