Bordeaux, France, taken on December 23, 2012

There was one specific occasion engraved in my mind where I felt genuinely and completely happy. It was an evening in December 2012 at the Bordeaux Christmas market, with a friend alongside me strolling through the colourful booths in the light rain. For some reason the company and the atmosphere made me feel so content, so joyful, and from that day onward, that exact spot where the Christmas markets are held every year has become my happy place, somewhere only I know.

At the annual 24-Heures Vélo (24-hour cycling) event in Louvain-la-Neuve, many teams display their creativity and come up with a bunch of fun and unique costume-enhanced bikes. One of my favourite ones would have to be the Eppendorf pipette – it really doesn’t get any more nerdy and “science-y” than this!

I had a Mexican colleague during my internship at Notre Dame, and our house became a “Canadian-Mexican embassy” for one day as the Canadians (us) and the Mexican decided to hold a feast. Well, more like our Mexican friend offered to cook an entire Mexican meal for us, which was delicious of course. It’s been 6 years already! Where are you, my Mexican friend?

Hsinchu, Taiwan, taken on February 10, 2008

I spent a winter term in Taiwan, which meant that Chinese new year that year was spent in Hsinchu. I think it was the only time I spent Chinese new year in Asia since I immigrated to Canada…wow! Here a feast was undergoing preparation, and it was going to be a huge one!

Where Am I?
