To me, nothing screams “nostalgia” more than food from my childhood, especially the cow offals (internal organs) – we call them “ngau jap” in Cantonese – that were ubiquitous on the streets of Guangzhou. Nowadays I can get this in Canada as well, but the ones sold at food carts in random corners or alleys in Guangzhou are still the best because they’ve retained the original taste and smell that fill the streets before you even reach them. And it’s the taste and smell of long-forgotten childhood that restore all of those buried memories, so precious and so nostalgic.

Two days ago my friend and I embarked on the ultimate seafood indulgence journey in Oban, a seaside town in Scotland famously known for amazing seafood. We decided to treat ourselves to the most luxurious item on the menu of Ee-Usk – the GRAND PLATTER, consisting of 6 oysters, half lobster, dressed crab, king scallops, langoustines, Thai fish cakes, smoked salmon, fresh salmon, mussels, and crab claws. This was honestly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is probably never to be repeated, and the seafood was SO GOOD AND FRESH AND HEAVENLY. Though by the end of the meal I felt like I could never eat seafood again simply because that was sooooooo much food for two people…but we finished it – even the lemon slices!

Is it OK if as soon as I saw the word for this week’s challenge, I thought of the ridiculously succulent and delicious medium-rare beef filets that I had at L’Entrecôte?! That restaurant is a legend in Bordeaux. If you don’t have to wait more than half an hour to get into the restaurant, you’re lucky. The beef filets are the main course, but the mysterious sauce is the signature of L’Entrecôte. Oh, and unlimited fries can’t hurt!

For some simple Taiwanese street food, here’s a plate of dried tofu with chili sauce, garlic, and Chinese sauerkraut. At this joint, you serve yourself and in the end you pay for whatever is on the plate. The bright colours certainly stimulate the appetite, don’t they? 😉
