Huzhou, China, taken on December 14, 2016

In Huzhou we saw this interesting sculpture of what seemed to be a food vendor in the old days, and my mom was certainly more fond of the man in the sculpture than were the rest of us. Her “interaction” with the sculpture actually seemed to make the entire scene come alive – how amusing!

Beijing, China, taken on December 8, 2016

One of the things that I insisted doing in Beijing when I arrived was to see the panoramic view of the Forbidden City from Jingshan Park. I remember having been here many, many (>20) years ago, but I wanted a fresh view of this historic place. And how magnificent it is on a clear day! (See the original photo in colour.)

Guangzhou, China, taken on April 10, 2015

Guangzhou, my hometown, is a city full of rich histories and hidden secrets. The busy commercialized area of the Shangxiajiu pedestrian street, while attracting shoppers and tourists, also hides many a sculptures depicting life in old Guangzhou city, known as “Xiguan”. This particular one of a seemingly rich and elegant lady alighting from a poor man’s rickshaw drew my attention and makes me wonder what a typical day was like back in the days in my hometown. Time to ask my dad for story time…

Toronto, Canada, taken on May 28, 2016

In Toronto, I don’t take the streetcar often even if I do go downtown, though I would like to avoid the necessary evil that is TTC altogether (which is nearly impossible). However, last time I was in Toronto, I hopped onto one of these very colourful streetcars, and with the old city hall as a backdrop, it actually looked quite cool!

Hoi An, Vietnam, taken on December 26, 2015

Hoi An is a very touristy city, but the locals of Hoi An live simple and genuine lives as their authentic selves. Sometimes I wonder if tourism does more harm than good to a city… (See the original photo in colour.)
