I’ve had several names growing up. Zhe, meaning “philosophy” or “wisdom” in Chinese, is my native and official name, though I go by Annie in everyday life. To avoid (or add?) confusion I sometimes go with “Zhe Annie” or “Annie Zhe” on paper. At the World Biomaterials Congress last year I had to wear a name tag that showed who I was, where I was from, and what I did, and I was…Zhe Annie, though please, just call me Annie.
This is the official “I am actually attending a conference” photo. Of course, having my own oral presentation done and over with on the first day lets me catch up on some relaxing for the rest of the week 😉
Post 600 goes to…Pimientos de Padrón! The trip to Mercado de San Miguel was certainly a very wise idea as we managed to eat some awesome tapas before the conference began. These are just green peppers from a place called Padrón, fried and salted. They’re just green peppers, right? Then how do they taste ridiculously delicious??? It is seriously beyond my understanding. This tapas is on par with another one that I’ve tried (patatas bravas) as my favourite. Gah, Spain, you make me indulge! (Side note: I can’t believe I’ve been doing this a-picture-a-day thing for 600 days straight…O_O)
Post #500 goes to…the EMRS umbrella! I was impressed by the EMRS (European Materials Research Society) conference organization – they even gave out umbrellas to the attendees! It was probably the best thing to have happened to me all week, as I would have not been pleased to be soaked in rain…and it rained quite strongly on 3/5 of the conference days. These were good, sturdy umbrellas too! I wonder how many they had to prepare…
Poster session at the European Materials Research Society Spring Meeting 2013 in Strasbourg – lots of opportunities to see what other people are doing in various fields of materials research and engage in interesting conversations.
