Nov 13, 2016 – [Sunday] WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Tiny

Cologne, Germany, taken on December 11, 2011

I love seeing a city from a high place and would gladly grab any chance to climb to the top of a hill or tower to do so, even if it means some serious legwork. The Dom in Cologne might have been the tallest man-made structure that I had climbed so far, and no doubt I was half dead by the time I got to the top. The views at the top are always rewarding, however. When I first visited Cologne, it was Christmas market season. The booths of the market taking place right at the Dom looked like miniatures, and the people visiting almost seemed like tiny ants navigating the market!

Feb 25, 2015 – [Wednesday] Travel Favs: Cologne

Cologne, Germany, taken on December 11, 2011

Cities always look stunning from high places, yet some high places have exceptional viewpoints that beat all others. This is my favourite photo from my trip to Cologne, which was more than three years. Three trains – an ICE in the middle and two red, regional trains – were either entering or exiting the train station. The trains cross the Rhine on the Hohenzollern Bridge to the other side, but from the top of the Dom they looked like tiny caterpillars moving slowly along a log or the trunk of a tree. For some reason, I just found that absolutely fascinating.
