The Mezquita in Córdoba was a rather impressive structure with an amazingly adorned interior. Indeed a unique place to be for a day trip! (See the original photo in colour.)

Ely, England, taken on August 15, 2015
I dropped by Ely as a half-day trip during my visit to Cambridge and enjoyed a sunny day admiring the city, mostly its stunning cathedral. Who would have thought that a small city in England would hold such an impressive structure? (See the original photo in colour.)
South Bend, USA, taken on August 20, 2008
Indeed, this is the basilica on the Notre Dame campus in South Bend, not the Notre Dame de Paris. I’m surprised that during the 8 months that I was in South Bend, I was only there once or twice and never noticed how stunning the architecture was until I looked at my photos afterwards.
Cologne, Germany, taken on December 11, 2011
Cities always look stunning from high places, yet some high places have exceptional viewpoints that beat all others. This is my favourite photo from my trip to Cologne, which was more than three years. Three trains – an ICE in the middle and two red, regional trains – were either entering or exiting the train station. The trains cross the Rhine on the Hohenzollern Bridge to the other side, but from the top of the Dom they looked like tiny caterpillars moving slowly along a log or the trunk of a tree. For some reason, I just found that absolutely fascinating.
