Kunming, China, taken on December 23, 2016
I’ve seen my fair share of street art but I saw street calligraphy with water for the first time near Green Lake Park in Kunming. Excellent technique and beautiful writing – what skill!
It’s been so long since I’ve practised Chinese calligraphy to the point where I feel like I’ve wasted my calligraphy set. I decided to pick it back up today and boy was it fun. In addition to being a practice of art, calligraphy is also a test of patience and precision. There’s a lot for me to learn for sure!
I picked up Chinese calligraphy two years ago in Toronto but unfortunately I was only able to practise for a limited amount of time before I headed to Europe. Now that I’m back home, I can try to play with it again, yay! My dad got a neat scroll which mimics calligraphy paper, but requires only water instead of ink to work. It dries by itself after a few minutes, so it’s quite useful for practice. I like it very much!
