Jun 12, 2016 – [Sunday] WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Pure

Hiking makes me feel in sync with nature and is one of the most rejuvenating things to do, even though hiking tough hills make me sweat. But the end results are always worth the effort. The hike up the Callander Crags was probably my favourite Scottish hike so far, and even before I reached the crags, I passed by an area of woodlands where rows and rows of trees stretched beyond my sight, seemingly endlessly. It seemed like another world was hidden behind the trees, unknown to our dimensions. There was not another soul around, and not a sound was heard. I immersed myself in that moment of awe, and I let myself indulge in that pure and perfect eeriness.

One of my favourite hikes in Scotland that I’ve done so far is the one around Bracklinn Falls and the Callander Crags. The scenery was simply amazing, and as someone who loves waterfalls, I was surprised that in addition to the Bracklinn Falls, there was another small waterfall at a crossing at the Keltie Water en route. The weather is getting better, which means…time to hike again!

While taking this photo, I was in a fascinated state of mind. I stood in awe as I emerged from an area of dense woodlands, completely not expecting that a vast landscape of hills would sudden appear in front of me out of nowhere. The hills seemed so far away, yet so paradoxically close – and the skies were so unconventionally clear for Scotland. I was genuinely content at that moment and I felt it necessary to pause and immerse myself in the pureness of nature, recognizing how small and insignificant I am among the hills, under the great sky.

I embraced a moment of victory as I reached the Jubilee Cairn when climbing up to the Callander Crags. Oh, what a climb it was – wet, muddy, slippery. More than once I thought I was lost and would be stuck in the middle of nowhere but alas, I made it, sweaty and strained but satisfied!
