I absolutely love photographing bees, and the contrast between this one and the purple flowers is just incredible. Not as close and sharp as I had liked it to be – that’s a job for a better lens – but I liked the way this one turned out. Click on the image for a better, full-sized view.
I didn’t realize that there was a bee hiding in the middle of the purple flower until I zoomed in on the photo afterwards. Well played, little guy.
I see this purple flower outside my lab every day, often visited by bees, and finally snapped a photo of one oblivious one today. It was probably too busy making friends with the flower to notice me 😉

After two months of intermittent rain, some stable sunny weather is finally back in Bordeaux! At this point I don’t want snow anymore 😉 I took a stroll around the downtown area, from Palais de Justice to Jardin Public to Quinconces, including a stop at the garden behind Hôtel de Ville for the first time ever. Oh, sun, please don’t leave us!
