Dec 13, 2016 – [Tuesday] Black & White: Forbidden City

Beijing, China, taken on December 8, 2016

One of the things that I insisted doing in Beijing when I arrived was to see the panoramic view of the Forbidden City from Jingshan Park. I remember having been here many, many (>20) years ago, but I wanted a fresh view of this historic place. And how magnificent it is on a clear day! (See the original photo in colour.)

Dec 06, 2016 – [Tuesday] Black & White: High point

Isle of Mull, Scotland, taken on June 13, 2015

The Isle of Mull has some of the most amazing landscapes in Scotland. I rented an electric bike and cycled the top portion of the island, a journey that took 8 hours but was very, very worth the time and effort. At one point I felt like I was climbing a hill for more than an eternity without a summit to be seen and I was running out of breath while all of a sudden, I was there – at the top. Of course I had to take time to rest and enjoy the scenery. A luxurious breath of fresh air later, I was ready and on the bike again – time to freewheel down the hill and reap the reward of the climb! (See the original photo in colour.)

Nov 15, 2016 – [Tuesday] Black & White: Streets of Hanoi

Hanoi, Vietnam, taken on December 29, 2015

My tour of Hanoi included a ride on a cyclo through the old quarter of the city. It was quite an experience navigating through the busy streets on this three-wheeled vehicle, and I was glad that the elderly gentleman who rode the cyclo knew where he was going as I would have certainly gotten lost if I were to wander around by myself, not to mention probably being hit by one of the countless motorbikes!
