The Ames Room is one of my favourite optical illusions and a perfect demonstration of scale or…the distorted perception of scale. I wasn’t so convinced when I saw photos and videos of this illusion, but when I saw the REAL thing at the Glasgow Science Centre, I was quite awed. Here one twin appears to be a giant while the other looks like a midget…makes sense or no?! I’m still unable to explain how it works exactly but I guess that’s the fun part about optical illusions – you don’t need an explanation for it to be amusing!
I love this, I saw something similar at the Museum of Science in Boston, it was a Lord of the Rings Exhibit, and they were showing how they made the Hobbit characters look so much smaller on screen for the movie.

Ah, I read about the LOTR one somewhere but didn’t know what it was referring to. So it was the Hobbits 😀 That’s really cool!
